It’s a big shift to think like a business even though you still operate with the heart of a nonprofit.
In this episode, we’re bringing you a featured conversation with social enterprise guru Paul Lamb. We recorded this conversation about two months before the November election and discussed the two candidate’s likely impact on nonprofit Social Enterprise efforts. We decided to leave in the 90-seconds where Paul and Dolph spoke about the election, as well which candidate would likely promote social enterprise the most.
We left this segment in because at SNP, we believe that many nonprofits should look to Social Enterprise as a long term strategy to replace federal funding they might lose in the next few years. Foundations and donors may step up to the plate to help with the transition during a loss of funding, but very few foundations want to support the same program year-in and year- out.
For this reason, the conversation with Paul Lamb is timely and includes discussions about:
- Understanding the culture shift that may need to occur within a nonprofit
- Developing a tolerance for risk and delayed return on investment
- Recruiting the right professionals to manage and grow the social enterprise
- Finding the capital necessary to start a social enterprise
